Senate Passes Increase in Minimum Wage

February, 2007

On February 1, 2007, the Senate passed a bill to increase the federal minimum wage to $7.25 per hour by 2009. The bill the Senate passed includes tax breaks to lessen the impact on employers who may be required to increase their wages.

The House passed a minimum wage bill earlier this year, but without the amendments made by the Senate. House and Senate leaders are continuing to work towards resolution of this matter.
