Increase in Federal Minimum Wage Signed by Bush

May, 2007

President Bush has signed legislation to increase the federal minimum wage from $5.15 to $7.25 an hour over the next two years. The increases will be done in three phases: Summer 2007 - $5.85; Summer 2008 - $6.55; and Summer 2009 - $7.25.  This is the first increase in the federal minimum wage since 1997.

Although many states have minimum wage rates higher than the federal rate, all employers will be required to obtain new posters displaying the new federal minimum wage. Employers will have 60 days from the effective date of the legislation (approximately July 25, 2007) to comply with the posting requirements.

Many companies offer this poster for a fee, but it can also be downloaded and printed for free.  Once the posters become available, Cascade Employers Association can provide you with the updated posting information.

Interested Members should contact Nancy Van Dyke to request posting information once it becomes available.
