Legislators Pass Paid Sick Leave Under OFLA

June, 2007

Earlier this month the Oregon Senate passed House Bill 2485 allowing workers to use any available paid sick leave for family leave taken under the Oregon Family Leave Act (OFLA). The Bill amends OFLA which currently allows employers to prohibit employees from using sick leave for OFLA qualifying reasons (other than for parental leave).

Although many employers allow employees to use any paid leave for OFLA qualifying reasons, this Bill will require it. The House passed the Bill earlier this year and Governor Kulongoski is expected to sign it into law.
