E-Verify Requirements Delayed Until May 21, 2009

January, 2009

On January 29, 2009, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) delayed the implementation date that federal contractors must use the E-Verify system, from February 20, 2009 to May 21, 2009.  The delay is to allow the Obama Administration time to review the regulations in response to a lawsuit.

Under the new E-Verify requirements, employers with federal contracts over $100,000 or subcontracts for services or construction over $3,000 will be required to use the E-Verify system.  E-Verify is an electronic verification system which is intended to confirm an individual’s eligibility to work in the United States.
