E-Verify Delayed Until September 8, 2009

June, 2009

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has again delayed the implementation date that federal contractors must use the E-Verify system, from June 30, 2009 to September 8, 2009.  The most current delay came after the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland granted a motion to postpone the implementation and extend a stay in the case challenging the rule.

Under the new E-Verify requirements, employers with federal contracts over $100,000 or subcontracts for services or construction over $3,000 will be required to use the E-Verify system.  E-Verify is an electronic verification system which is intended to confirm an individual’s eligibility to work in the United States.
