New E-Verify User Manual for Federal Contractors

October, 2010

Recently the USCIS issued an updated E-verify user manual for federal contractors. E-verify is an internet based system that federal contractors must use to check the employment eligibility of newly hired and current employees. The executive order covering E-Verify (E.O. 13465) requires federal contractors who have the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) E-Verify clause in their contract to complete the E-verify process. Generally, federal contractors/subcontractors with primary contracts in excess of $100,000 or subcontracts over $3,000 are required to use the E-Verify system.

Federal contractors who fail to complete the E-verify process may be subject to penalties that include ineligibility to receive and/or loss of federal contracts.

The updated guide gives detailed instructions on how to enroll in and use the E-Verify system. The User Manual also provides information on what contractors should do if they receive a notice of non-confirmation regarding an employee’s employment eligibility. The User Manual also provides information on how contractors can create reports and password protect their E-Verify account.
