After much anticipation, the Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI) published the proposed rules for Oregon’s new sick leave law which takes effect January 1, 2016. The proposed rules clarify many of the questions that employers have including verification and certification of the need for leave, accrual of time, calculating pay, notice and documentation among others.

The public comment period for the proposed rules is open until October 30, 2015 at 5:00 p.m.

January 1, 2016 isn’t that far away so now is a great time to get started on the review and update of your sick or paid time off policies. Remember, these are the proposed rules so there could be changes in the final rules. Accordingly, your policies should not be finalized until the final rules are published by BOLI.
