Making Time to Build Your HR Leadership Skills

Posted by: Jenna Reed, Vice President of HR Services and General Counsel on Thursday, February 16, 2012

Do you have time to take three days away from your office to develop your HR leadership skills? I know, I know – you’re really busy and that’s a long time to be out of the office. Well, we wouldn’t ask you to take three days away to participate in our HR Leadership Certificate Program if we weren’t absolutely certain it would be worth it. Now, I could tell you all of the reasons why I think it’s worth the time, but it’s more meaningful if you hear it from some of our recent participants in the series:

“I was/am very new to this field, and there isn’t anyone else in my workplace that is involved in HR for me to learn directly from. I really liked being submerged in the program with other people of varying skills and circumstances. I thought everyone from Cascade did a really wonderful job of sharing great insights and information that I wouldn’t have easily come across otherwise. Plus, for the areas I wanted more specific info, the course included four electives, which I think added greatly to the value.” – Amber Wiley, Natura Health Products

“Yes, it was definitely worth it! Being away for consecutive days allowed me to detach from work, so I could focus on learning. I found the HR Leadership training allowed me to gain a new perspective. I was constantly making notes regarding how the information may apply to our workforce. I also enjoyed networking with the other participants. Sharing stories and ‘best practices’ was definitely valuable. Being away from the office allowed me the opportunity to just think, brainstorm, and get a fresh perspective. As Stephen Covey might say, sometime you need to ‘sharpen the saw’.” – Trudy Hylemon, Fall Creek Farm and Nursery

“… The training was fantastic. As HR professionals, we end up training redundantly. I think the Leadership Program gives us knowledge about subjects that fall outside the “nuts and bolts” topics usually available. Leadership as a concept is more nebulous and less tangible, but makes all the difference in areas like retention, coaching and training.” Frances Weathers – Alvord Taylor Independent Living Services

I’ve been leading sessions in our HR Leadership program for six years and consistently get feedback like this. This is why the program has been so successful for almost 15 years. Whether you are new to HR, an experienced HR professional or any other leader seeking to expand your knowledge about human resources and its role in leading your organization to success, participating in our HR Leadership Certificate Program will be worth the investment.

If you’re ready, our next session starts on March 7th. If you want to talk more about the program to see if it’s a fit for you, give me a call.
