Even Miracles Take a Little Time

Don’t expect Cinderella to be a princess tomorrow, but definitely invite her to see that as a possibility.

Moving employees to higher levels of engagement is usually a gradual process. Despite what themes from Hollywood movies suggest, movement into maturity and engagement does not happen in an hour and three-quarters (…with all of us living happily ever after). Movement along the engagement continuum takes time and investment.

This is time and investment, by the way, that can have a huge return. Make invitations based on where your employees are and recognize ANY movement in the right direction.

Hiring for strengths, training supervisors and structuring brief but frequent engagement discussions with employees all can contribute to our less-engaged employees beginning to get it and our already-engaged employees to sustain their effort and momentum. We have found that teaching and supporting recognition skills improves all of these processes.
