Fiercely devoted to their mission, SPOON Foundation improves nutrition and feeding practices for children in orphanages and foster care, and for children with disabilities, so they may grow and develop to their full potential. Did you know…

  1. In 2008, Cindy Kaplan and Mishelle Rudzinski were inspired to co-found SPOON based on their individual experiences as mothers to malnourished children they adopted from Kazakhstan.
  2. Located in Portland, Oregon, SPOON is the first and only organization worldwide working to protect orphans and vulnerable children from the debilitating – yet fully preventable – impacts of malnutrition and improper feeding practices.
  3. Between 75% and 91% of children in orphanages where SPOON works suffer from preventable malnutrition prior to SPOON’s intervention.
  4. In their first seven years, SPOON has directly impacted nearly 5,000 children. Through training, education and advocacy they have reached more than 85,000 more.
  5. First piloted in Kazakhstan, SPOON is now reaching children in Russia, India, China, Vietnam, Mongolia, and the United States, with plans to expand to Bulgaria and Ethiopia in 2016.

Cascade is proud to share these facts about SPOON Foundation, one of our newest nonprofit members.
