Five Things You May Not Know About Wine by Joe

Let me introduce you to this custom winemaking company, crafting under the brands of Wine by Joe and Dobbes Family Estate, among others.

  1. Dobbes Family Estate/Wine by Joe is the realization of Joe Dobbes’ dream of a family wine business and over 3 decades of winemaking. Joe began his career apprenticing at renowned wineries in both France and Germany. Stateside, Joe has produced wine for Elk Cove Vineyards, Eola Hills, Hinman/Sylvan Ridge, Paschal Winery, and Willamette Valley Vineyards, including the Griffin Creek and Tualatin Estate labels.
  2. In 2002, after working in the business for others internationally and in Oregon, Joe started Wine by Joe with a small amount of money in his back pocket, a lot of experience and passion, and as he says, “sufficient ignorance of what I was up against.”
  3. In addition to crafting wine for several clients within its two dedicated red and white facilities, this Dundee, Oregon winery now produces three of its own labels: Dobbes Family Estate, a luxury label dedicated to Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, Rogue Valley Syrah, Viognier and Grenache Blanc; Wine By Joe, a value-priced Oregon appellation label; and Jovino, dedicated to producing Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris for on-premise accounts.
  4. In 2008 Wine by Joe’s Pinot Noir rated 91 points and best Pinot Noir under $20 at the World Value Wine Challenge.
  5. Today this multi-faceted wine company is one of the largest in the state, with 214 acres of vineyard. They employ more than 20 full-time employees as well as dozens of part-time and seasonal workers that Joe Dobbes refers to as his family.

Cascade is proud to showcase Wine by Joe, created with a passion to let grapes of the finest varieties in Oregon speak for themselves.
