The 2022 National Business Trends Survey is now available!

This national survey is run each year by Cascade in partnership with the Employer Associations of America (EAA), collecting executives’ feedback and thoughts on the current and upcoming business year and trends. This year’s survey had 1,216 participating organization from all 50 states.

This survey covers topics such as:

  • Business Outlooks
  • Business Investment Plans
  • Staffing Plans
  • Recruitment/Retention Challenges
  • Job Creation Challenges
  • Business Improvement Measures
  • Pay Strategies
  • Business Challenges

The overall report contains a multitude of smaller reports, so you can view the trend data from multiple perspectives. This includes a national overall report, four regional reports, individual state reports, and individual industry reports.

The Oregon data is reflective of the overall national report in most respects. There were 102 organizations that responded for Oregon in this year’s survey. Of those, 38 percent feel that the economy will stay the same as 2021 in the next year, while 32 percent feel it will decline.

Current business concerns are obvious, with the recent focus on recruitment and retention featuring high as organizations’ biggest concerns, along with COVID-19 impacts on shipping and supply chains. While roughly 70 percent are extremely to moderately concerned about COVID-19’s impact on human resources, which is about the same as last year, 71 percent are extremely to moderately concerned about the impact on business continuity (e.g. supply chain, financial implications, shutdowns, etc.), which is a 20 percent increase from last year. When asked about organizations’ greatest challenges for 2022, “Cost of Materials” was ranked third, behind “Talent Acquisition” and “Talent Retention.” Comparatively, “Cost of Materials” was ranked eighth last year, and “Talent Acquisition,” while ranked first last year, saw a 26 percent increase in responses this year.

This survey covers additional topics, such as staffing plans for 2022, recruitment and retention strategies, wage/salary strategies, remote work plans, and more.
