2023 National Business Trends Survey Report Now Available

The 2023 National Business Trends Survey is available for purchase! This national survey is run each year by Cascade in partnership with the Employer Associations of America (EAA), collecting executives’ feedback and thoughts on the current and upcoming business year and trends. This year’s survey had 1,167 participating organizations from all 50 states.

The overall report contains a multitude of smaller reports, so you can view the trend data from multiple perspectives. This includes a national overall report, four regional reports, individual state reports, and individual industry reports.

The Oregon data is reflective of the overall national report in most respects. There were 114 Oregon organizations responding to this year’s survey. Of those, 51 percent feel that the economy will decline in 2023, while 33 percent expect it to stay the same as 2022.

Despite the anticipated economic decline in 2023, executives still anticipate high hiring rates for the upcoming year, with 54 percent anticipating hiring permanent staff next year. Recruitment and retention have remained some of the top concerns for businesses, along with inflation, cost of materials, and organizations’ ability to pay competitive wages/salaries. 80 percent of organizations are increasing starting salaries to address recruitment difficulties, and 88 percent of organizations are adjusting their pay ranges upwards to address retention rates. Executives identified competitive pay (87 percent) and good work/life balance (73 percent) as the most important factors prospective employees are looking for.
