Your People Are Part of the Plan

Fall is often when the focus shifts to budgets, planning, and what comes next.
Many organizations are doing that planning while also managing tight resources, restructuring, or even layoffs. When things feel uncertain, it can be tempting to put anything that feels optional on hold.
But your people are feeling that uncertainty too.
Your high performers have options. If they are not sure where things are headed or do not see opportunities to grow, they may start looking elsewhere. And when people stay through a round of cuts, they are often taking on more work while also carrying more uncertainty.
That can lead to burnout and turnover at a time when you really cannot afford either.
The good news is that investing in the people you already have does not always require a big budget. Sometimes, it starts with simply asking how they are doing and taking the time to listen.
Engagement Surveys: A Checkup for Your Culture
An employee engagement survey can give you a better understanding of how employees are experiencing their work, their leaders, and your organization. Because responses are anonymous and reported in aggregate, employees can provide honest feedback.
Our consultants look beyond the scores, too. We review written comments and compare your results with national and industry data to help you understand what is typical, where there may be concerns, and where it makes sense to focus your efforts.
360s: Are Your Leaders Ready for the Pace of Change?
People do not leave organizations, they leave managers.
Leaders are being asked to communicate through uncertainty, manage conflict, and support their teams through change, often while navigating those same challenges themselves. 360 feedback surveys provide confidential feedback from direct reports, peers, and supervisors, giving leaders a better understanding of what they are doing well and where they may have opportunities to grow.
Make It Part of Your Planning
The value of a survey is not in collecting the results. It is in what you do with them.
Listening to your team gives you an opportunity to build what you learn into your plans and priorities, whether you are preparing for a new calendar year, a new fiscal year, or simply looking ahead to what comes next.
Maybe that means focusing on leadership development. Maybe it means giving managers more support with change or conflict. Or maybe it means addressing something employees have been asking for that has been easy to overlook.
Sometimes the best investment is giving people the support and development they need to be successful. That could mean helping a manager build confidence in difficult conversations, giving emerging leaders opportunities to develop their skills, or providing one-on-one coaching when someone needs more individualized support.
Our Conflict, Coaching, and Accountability training, Leadership Academy, and one-on-one coaching are a few ways to support your people and help them continue to grow.
That is what investing in the people you have can look like. Listen first, then use what you learn to decide where to focus.
